Q #1: How has the new website been received over the past year?
A #1: Extremely well. The new website has proven to be much easier for our player’s parents to use for registering, especially the second time as all of the initial contact and player information was retained.
The staff had a learning curve as well, but realized many savings. Once all the players were entered into the database, reports for commissioners, coaches, and Fairfax County were prepared much more quickly and use a lot less paper. Many volunteers use the online reports instead of the previous paper versions.
Online registration by parents also provided over 2,000 family email addresses, making communication much quicker and easier. Savings from just one hard-copy mailing to that many families can be significant and helps to keep the participation fees low for the athletes.
Q #2: There have been a lot of changes over the past year, what’s going on and when will they stop?
A #2: The website has gone through several rapid stages of change during the past year, but has now stabilized. Maintenance will be on going and that is where you can help. If you run into problems with the website or have suggestions, please send them to jccarlin@mac.com. While we cannot accommodate all change requests, we will review all of them and implement the cost effective changes based upon your suggestions.
Q #3: How do I get general information about the Annandale Boys & Girls Club (ABGC)?
A #3: Check the "About Us" section using the navigation menu to your left.
Q #4: How can I contact the ABGC in general or find the phone number and/or email of a specific contact?
A #4: The ABGC is a large, mostly volunteer, organization. General email information can be found by clicking on "Email Us" or "Contact Us" in the navigation menu. For a specific person, check the "ABGC Contact Directory" located at the bottom of the web page you get to by clicking "Contact Us" on the navigation menu. If the person you are looking for cannot be found, check with the main office or call the appropriate league commissioner.
Q #5: How do I sign my child up for a sport or activity?
A #5: Sign up is done through the Registration process. There is a separate sign up most sports or activities. Some sports and activities, like boxing and mba, do not currently have online registrations. These smaller programs are handled by a call to the program coordinator. You can find their name and contact number in the appropriate section.
Q #6: I have signed up in the past, am recognized as a member, but can't add my child because the system says he/she is already in the system...what's going on?
A #6: What generally happens is that multiple parent accounts have been set up with children only attached to one of the accounts, confusing the system.
If you are having this problem, send your name, your child/children name(s) and the email address used when signing up at ABGC to: jccarlin@mac.com and he will fix the relationships, then you’ll be able to register online.
If you are having other registration issues, you can also email them to the same address.
Q #7: How do I find field or activity locations and can I get directions online?
A #7: Yes! Click on "Sport & Activity Locations" on the navigation bar to your left. It takes you to a page that gives a comprehensive list of locations sorted by description. By clicking on the corresponding "Map" hyperlink (highlighted and underlined words), you will be taken to a MapQuest map showing the location on a map. Also, you can click on the automobile icon near the top of that page to get directions from your location.
